The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department will host it's fourth Airport Community Police Academy beginning this fall. This academy will offer our community a unique opportunity to get an up-close look at the training and inner workings of the MWAA Police Department. This will be an 11-week academy held on Mondays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Dulles International Airport.
All classes will be taught by law enforcement officers and civilian personnel who are experts in their fields. Examples of the subjects to be taught include; Patrol Operations, K-9 Explosive Detection, Internal Affairs, Criminal Investigation, Evidence Collection and much more.
The goal of the Airport Community Academy is to build on the positive relations between the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department and the communities we serve. Graduates will form a nucleus of well-informed community members who understand the challenges facing law enforcement in today’s society. It is always important for law enforcement and the community to work together to find realistic solutions to challenges facing our communities. This Airports Community Police Academy is the MWAA Police Departments contribution to this effort.
The Airports Community Police Academy is free to participants. Attendees must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check. Participants must be willing to commit to attending the three-hour session each Monday. Space is limited to 25 students.
