Passengers will be treated to Gangnam Style dancing, musical performances and mixed martial arts demonstrations

Dulles International Airport will host a series of musical performances and educational events throughout May in recognition of Asian-Pacific Heritage Month. Passengers traveling through the airport will have the opportunity to experience the diversity of Asian-Pacific culture and heritage. Events will include performances by Miji, a popular girl group hailing from South Korea, that performs well-known American and K-pop songs; traditional Japanese Taiko drums; demonstrations of the dance phenomenon Gangnam Style; and other traditional Filipino, Afghan and Indian performances.

“The celebration of culture and diversity is a hallmark of our growing international airport,” said Christopher U. Browne, Dulles International Airport manager. “As the airport welcomes new carriers and additional destinations we broaden the region’s access to various cultures and incorporate events, like Asian Pacific Heritage Month, at Dulles International Airport to enhance the overall travel experience of our passengers.”

Korean Airlines will kick off Asian-Pacific Heritage Month with musical and dance performances on May 1 at 4:00pm on the Departures Level. Representatives from the Korean Embassy’s Cultural Center and Korean Air will be present.

The monthlong celebration is part of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s Arts Program and is being held in conjunction with All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Korean Air.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, through its Arts Program, offers diverse regional, national and international rotating exhibits, live performances and public art displays that celebrate the beauty and creativity of the National Capital Region. For more information about the Airports Authority Arts Program visit the Reagan National and Dulles International airports “What’s New?” pages at mwaa.com.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority was established in 1987 by the governments of Virginia and the District of Columbia to manage and operate Washington’s Ronald Reagan National and Dulles International airports, which together serve more than 40 million passengers a year. The Airports Authority also operates and maintains the Dulles Airport Access Road and the Dulles Toll Road and manages construction of the Silver Line project, a 23-mile extension of the Washington region’s Metrorail system into Loudoun County, Va. No taxpayer money is used to operate the toll road, which is funded by toll revenues, or the airports, which are funded through aircraft landing fees, rents and revenues from concessions. The Silver Line construction is funded by a combination of toll-road revenues, airport contributions and federal, state and local government appropriations. The Airports Authority is led by a 17-member board of directors appointed by the governors of Virginia, Maryland, the mayor of Washington, D.C., and the president of the United States.
