Richard A. Kennedy Joins Airports Authority Board of Directors

Richard A. Kennedy has joined the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors.

Kennedy is a nationally recognized expert in the elevator and escalator industry. He is president and CEO of Kencor, Inc., an elevator systems company, where he has worked since 1982. From 1994 to 1996, he was also CEO of Delco Elevator Equipment Sales, Inc., and from 1978 to 1981, he was CEO of Elevator Sales & Service, Inc. 

In addition, Kennedy is currently a director of the Elevator Contractor Council for the Association of Building Contractors. He was president of the National Association of Elevator Contractors from 2010 to 2011, and from 2009 to 2011 he served on its Board of Directors.

Through his independent consulting company, Richard A Kennedy & Associates, he is frequently retained by states and municipalities, the legal profession, insurance companies and building owners to audit and advise on elevator and escalator service. 

Kennedy received a Bachelor of Arts and Science from Villanova University and a Master of Business Administration from Widener University. He resides in West Chester, Pennsylvania, with his family. 

Kennedy is an appointee of the president of the United States, filling the third and final federal position and bringing the board to its complete complement of 17 members.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority was established in 1987 by the governments of Virginia and the District of Columbia to manage and operate Washington’s Ronald Reagan National and Dulles International airports, which together serve more than 40 million passengers a year. The Airports Authority also operates and maintains the Dulles Airport Access Road and the Dulles Toll Road and manages construction of the Silver Line project, a 23-mile extension of the Washington region’s Metrorail system into Loudoun County, Va. No taxpayer money is used to operate the toll road, which is funded by toll revenue, or the airports, which are funded through aircraft landing fees, rents and revenue from concessions. The Silver Line construction is funded by a combination of toll-road revenue, airport contributions and federal, state and local government appropriations. The Airports Authority is led by a 17- member board of directors appointed by the Governors of Virginia, Maryland, the Mayor of Washington, D.C., and the President of the United States.
