Drivers: Use the Hourly Parking Garages for Dropoffs/Pickups to Avoid Severe Delays

A special event on Tuesday, November 1 at Reagan National will necessitate roadway closures to ensure public safety. Airport passengers should plan ahead before being picked up or dropped off at Reagan National between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. During that time a statue of Ronald Reagan will be unveiled in front of Terminal A in a ceremony held by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation. Traffic driving towards the departures and arrivals ramps of all terminals will be severely congested because four lanes will merge to one, then follow a detour around the event site. Traffic could also be blocked for brief intervals along the detour route (see map below):

To avoid severe roadway delays between 11:00 am and 12:00 noon, consider the following alternatives:

  1. Use Metro. The airport is located on the system’s Blue and Yellow line.
  2. Avoid driving up to the terminals. Instead, keep left as you enter the airport and follow signs toward the parking garages. Drop off or pick up passengers within the hourly parking garage closest to your terminal.
  3. Avoid the road closure window. Plan to arrive by car either before 11:00 am or after 12:00 noon.
  4. Board a taxi instead of having a car pick you up. Use the regular taxi boarding areas at each terminal.

Significant planning was done prior to this event to minimize the scope of passenger delays. A heavy presence of airport and event staff will be onsite to direct passengers and traffic. We apologize for the inconvenience to airport travelers during this time.
