Upcoming Opportunities - Major Construction and Design

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority anticipates issuing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or Requests for Qualifications Information (RFQIs) for the following major Construction and Design projects throughout the remainder of 2008 and into 2009. Please note that this is not necessarily a complete list of projects that will be issued during this time period, and all dates are estimates and subject to change at any time.

Fourth Quarter 2008

Gate 313 Sanitary System, Dulles Airport AVAILABLE NOW!
- Description: This project will provide a sanitary sewer line connection from Gate 313 to the Stallion Branch sanitary sewer system at Washington Dulles international Airport.

Main Terminal Expansion Joint Replacement on Arrival Ramp, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will remove and replace expansion joints located in the Arrivals ramp, the middle of three roadway ramps in front of the Main Terminal at Washington Dulles international Airport. Work will include repairs and waterproofing the existing trench drains on the Arrivals ramp as well as extensive maintenance of traffic and phasing work.

First Quarter 2009

Demolition of Existing NOAA Facilities, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will facilitate the demolition of the existing NOAA Campus after the relocation of these facilities is complete. The project involves termination of various utility connections, demolition of structures and site restoration.

South Baggage Basement EDS In-Line High Volume Baggage Screening, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will construct a full conveyance system build-out, existing utility modifications, and TSA support space within the existing South Baggage Basement.  The project also includes a steel frame mezzanine level for housing the EDS high volume equipment over an existing tug drive.  Work includes office and restroom build-out, erection of steel structure, relocation of mechanical ductwork, fire protection and electrical components.

15/33 Runway Overlay and Taxiway Rehabilitation, National Airport
- Description: This project will provide asphalt resurfacing to various sections of Runway 15/33.  This rehabilitation will consist of milling and overlay while the rehabilitation on the taxiways will consist of milling and overlay with the possibility of partial/full depth in some areas.  Work also includes runway mill and overlay, pavement reconstruction, pavement markings, lighting, erosion and sediment control.

Fourth Runway Deicing Facility, Phase I, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will construct one 100,000 gallon potassium acetate tank with two bottom truck loading stations beneath a canopy.  Work also includes a bituminous pavement driveway and electrical work.

New Apron at Demolished ARFF Site, National Airport
- Description: This project will replace the site and foundation of the existing ARFF Station 301 with pavement capable of supporting parked aircraft. The contract includes new PCC pavement, installation of associated drainage, signage and markings.

Second Quarter 2009

Main Terminal MUFIDS Upgrades, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will upgrade to the existing Multi-User Flight Information Display System (MUFIDS) at the baggage claim level of the Main Terminal to support the new Automated People Mover (APM) Station traffic flow. Work will include equipment, casework, electrical and special system installations at specified locations.

Runway 1C-19C Rehabilitation, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will provide partial rehabilitation of Runway 1C-19C and includes the reconstruction of Taxiways W2, W3 and W4 connectors. Work includes new PCC pavement, bituminous shoulders, installation of associated drainage, lighting, signage and markings, seeding, sodding, topsoil and mulching.

Third Quarter 2009

A380 Gate Modifications, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will construct a new ramping system for direct concourse level aircraft pedestrian access at Concourse B to accommodate the new A380 aircraft. Work includes modifications to existing concourse facilities including sterile corridors and apron areas.

Telecom Room HVAC Upgrades, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will enhance the existing HVAC system and increase cooling capacity in the Telecom Room at the Main Terminal. Work will include extension of the existing HVAC system, piping/ductwork, unit installation and controls.

Fourth Quarter 2009

Runway 1-19 Safety Area Improvements and Hold Apron 1 Expansion, National Airport
- Description: This project will extend Runway 1 approximately 300 feet to the south, extending parallel Taxiway J to the new threshold, relocating the existing airport perimeter road, relocating the ILS glide slope and modifying the ALSF-2 system. The project will expand Hold Apron 1 approximately 250 feet to the south and 200 feet to the west. Work includes new PCC pavement, installation of associated drainage, signage and markings.
