Alexandria, VA— Motorists traveling to Washington Dulles International Airport this summer will benefit from roadway and parking additions that the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will open on Memorial Day weekend.

Said Airports Authority President and CEO, James A. Wilding, "Dulles Airport continues on a course of strong growth, and we’re focusing our efforts on projects such as these to have facilities and services in place for the additional passengers and shippers who are choosing Dulles for their air service needs." In 1998, Dulles served an additional 2 million passengers and projections for 1999 double that number.

A new traffic lane has been added to the circular entrance roadway in front of the terminal to increase roadway capacity. Drivers will now have the use of two lanes to reach the ticket counter level of the terminal. This new lane along with new overhead directional signs will help drivers find the correct lanes to drop off or pick up passengers as they approach the terminal. The project is designed to help relieve congestion in front of the terminal during peak travel hours.

Another recently-completed project by the Airports Authority will increase available parking spaces at Dulles. An additional 3,500 spaces will open in the new Orange Economy Lot. This brings the total supply of public parking to 19,000 spaces at Dulles Airport.
