PUBLIC NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY AND PUBLIC WORKSHOP
METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AIRPORTS AUTHORITY
DRAFT PROGRAMMATIC ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
FOR THE WESTERN LAND AREA AT
WASHINGTON DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
DULLES, VIRGINIA

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) is proposing to advance the development of a 416-acre parcel that it owns at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), known as the Western Land Area (WLA).  The project has considered several development scenarios for the WLA, which is previously undeveloped excess Airport property.  As part of the Proposed Action, an additional approximately eight acres of currently leased MWAA property is also assumed to be available for use as part of the WLA.  The purpose of this project is to utilize the undeveloped WLA property to generate revenue for the Airport, and meet market demand of the rapidly developing Route 606 corridor in a way that ensures well-planned, aviation-compatible development.

In conformance with the National Environmental Policy Act, MWAA has prepared a Draft Programmatic Environmental Assessment (PEA) to address the potential environmental impacts of the Proposed Action.  An electronic copy of the document is provided below.  Hard copies are available for review at the following locations during regular business hours until January 9, 2018: Chantilly Regional Library (4000 Stringfellow Road, Chantilly, VA); Centreville Regional Library (14200 St. Germain Drive, Centreville, VA); and Sterling Library (120 Enterprise Street, Sterling, VA).

In addition, MWAA invites the public to attend a Public Workshop on December 19, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at MWAA Offices, 45045 Aviation Drive, 2nd Floor, Conference Room B, Dulles, VA 20166.  The public workshop will be held in an “open house” format with display boards to illustrate Draft PEA information. Representatives from the Authority and its Consultant Team will be available to answer questions throughout the Public Workshop, and graphics will be on display illustrating the purpose and need for the proposed improvements, alternatives considered, affected environment, and environmental consequences.

An opportunity to submit written comments will be provided during and after the public workshop.  Written comments on the Draft PEA may be submitted to Erik Schwenke, Office of Engineering, Planning Department, MWAA, 45045 Aviation Drive, 3rd Floor, Dulles, Virginia 20166, or by email to [email protected].  All comments must be received no later than 5:00 PM on January 9, 2018

Before including your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, be advised that your entire comment – including your personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time.  While you can ask us in your comment to withhold from public review your personal identifying information, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
