Metro and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) today commemorated a major milestone topping one million customers at the Washington Dulles International Airport Metrorail Station since opening in November.  During a celebration event at the station, Metro and MWAA surprised a lucky traveler as the ceremonial one-millionth customer to go through the Dulles International Airport Station. Ivy Cheng arrived at the station greeted with cheers, Silver Line memorabilia, and gifts provided by Metro, Dulles International Airport and United Airlines.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority officially welcomed Metrorail to Dulles International Airport on Tuesday, marking the completion of a major two-phase Silver Line construction project to extend rail service to Dulles and 10 other stations in Fairfax and Loudoun counties in Northern Virginia. With the new service, airport passengers and employees now can take Metrorail directly to Dulles from downtown Washington and other points throughout the region.

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority board of directors and CEO Jack Potter congratulated the Silver Line Phase 2 construction team Wednesday on achieving “operational readiness,” which has launched a final round of testing before the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) begins passenger service on the eagerly awaited Metrorail connection to Washington Dulles International Airport and points beyond.  

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority officials announced Thursday they have declared substantial completion for work by Capital Rail Constructors (CRC) on Phase 2 of the Metrorail Silver Line extension project.  The work by CRC, a joint venture led by Clark Construction Group and Kiewit, is a key component of the project to extend the region’s Metrorail public transit system to Dulles International Airport and beyond.

The underground tunnel connecting Parking Garage 1 and the Main Terminal will be closed to accomodate the construction of Silver Line station at the airport. Increased shuttle bus service will be provided for passengers.
