More than 300 works of art by students in District of Columbia public schools will be on exhibit in Terminal B/C at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport during the month of April. The theme, “Soaring in 2001”, will be reflected in the work from 100 elementary, middle, junior, and senior high schools throughout the city. The exhibition will be on display in the ground level of Terminals B and C where the baggage carousels are located.

“Our goal is to show Washington, DC, and the nation, the magnitude of artistic achievement among our students,” said Paula Sanderlin Dorosti, Art Content Specialist for DC Public Schools. The exhibit will include drawings, paintings, collages, prints, computer graphics, mixed media and three-dimensional constructions.

“We are very pleased to be able to showcase not only our own architectural enhancement program but also the work of other artists and aspiring artists,” said James A. Wilding, President and CEO of the Airports Authority.

The Terminal building which opened in July, 1997, incorporates the work of 30 professional artists and artisans as a permanent part of its design.

“We applaud DC Public Schools for sponsoring this exhibition, which encourages the considerable talent of many young people,” said Carolyn B. Lewis, Chairman of the Airports Authority. “This is the second DC citywide student art exhibition at Reagan Washington National,” added Ms. Lewis, “and together with other art in the terminal, reflects the regional diversity of the Airports Authority.”

In addition, there is a display in National’s Historic Terminal A of works of art by students at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Fairfax County, with whom the Airports Authority has a School-Business Partnership.

Terminal A also showcases a continuing exhibit of works by artists based at the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria.
