Message from the Chief of Police

We are proud to serve the two regional airports of our nation’s capital — Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport — as well as the Dulles Toll Road. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the traveling public, airport employees, tenants, and visitors throughout our airport system.

The Airports Authority Police Department is one of the largest law enforcement agencies in Northern Virginia and is comprised of 233 sworn officers, 40 Traffic Control Officers, and 15 professional staff members. Our Virginia-certified police officers enforce Airports Authority regulations, the county codes of Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun Counties, and the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

We work closely with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners and proudly participate in regional and federal task forces. These strong partnerships, along with our close relationships with neighboring public safety agencies, allow us to provide coordinated and effective law enforcement services across the National Capital Region.

In support of the traveling public and motorists using the Dulles Toll Road, our Safety Service Patrol personnel provide roadside assistance and traffic management services to help reduce congestion and improve roadway safety during incidents and emergencies.

Together, our airports serve more than 54 million passengers annually. Every day, our personnel interact with a diverse community that includes travelers from around the world, government officials, airline and airport employees, business partners, and local residents.

I firmly believe that strong partnerships between law enforcement and the community are essential to maintaining a safe and secure environment. Through communication, collaboration, and professionalism, we remain committed to understanding the needs of our community while delivering exceptional police services with integrity, respect, and excellence.
