Phase II to begin October 26th

Today the Secretary of Transportation, Norman Mineta, announced 18 additional destinations that will receive air service to and from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport starting as soon as Friday, October 26th, pending the implementation of further enhanced security measures at all airports serving Reagan National Airport.

The additional cities are: Charleston SC, Charlotte, Chicago-Midway, Cincinnati, Columbus, Denver, Detroit, Ft. Lauderdale, Houston, Kansas City, Miami, Milwaukee, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, St. Louis, Seattle and Toronto.

The new destinations, which bring the total number of airports served to 26, are in addition to the return of service to eight cities on October 4th. Those cities are: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Ft.Worth, Newark, New York (LaGuardia), Pittsburgh and Minneapolis-St. Paul.

In addition to the new cities served, eight additional airlines will resume operations at National: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, America West, American Trans Air, Frontier, Midwest Express, Spirit and TWA. These airlines will join the six airlines that returned to service at National on October 4th: American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways.

The Airports Authority looks forward to future announcements from the Federal Government to further return to service the remaining scheduled flights which the Airport accommodated prior to September 11th.
