To commemorate Women's History Month 2022, the Airports Authority is launching another series acknowledging the tremendous efforts of women working in various sectors of MWAA. These women have contributed to every aspect of the operations of the Airports before and during the pandemic and are now shaping the recovery process.

From every department at the Airports Authority, both Airports, and the Toll Road, we salute the achievements and contributions of all the extraordinary women who work here.

Deborah Green
Electronic Shop Supervisor

Tell us your role here at the Airports Authority.
As the Supervisor, I shaped the direction of the Electronic Shop by encouraging creativity along with open communication and a strong emphasis on teamwork. The electronic field is constantly changing, and I help our technicians stay current with training on the variety of systems we are responsible for maintaining. The fire alarm system, flight information, public announcements and airfield lighting computer systems are some of the systems we maintain.

Tell us about your career journey.
My MWAA Journey: When I started with MWAA in 2001 as an electronic technician, I was the go-to person for the fire alarm systems throughout the airport but was part of a team of people with varied specialized skills and quickly learned all the systems under our responsibility.  During my tenure, I worked to understand other MWAA teams and temporarily detailed to the Contracts division. I also completed internal supervisory training and earned a degree in Contracts Management through the education assistance program. I worked my way up to become Electronic Shop leader in October 2020 then Supervisor January 2022.

Share an example of a hurdle or obstacle you experienced during your career journey and how you overcame it.
As with any journey there are many hurdles, earning a degree to enhance my career, while working full time and caring for my mother took a great deal of commitment. With hard work and focus I earned a degree and promoted to Leader, then Supervisor of the Electronic Shop at DCA.

What has been your biggest career and or personal achievement?
When I became Supervisor, we were extremely short handed due to two people retiring but I had a vision of the direction of the shop. I am proud to see that vision being realized but it didn't happen without the support of the people in the shop. I like where I work and what I do but it can be a challenging field for women just know you can be whatever you choose to do, do not allow someone else's opinions sway you be confident in your choice.
