State of Emergency Declared in Virginia, Severe Weather Expected Due to Hurricane Florence

Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of event participants, vendors, aircraft and airport operations, the 2018 Dulles Day Festival, Plane Pull and 5K/10K race, scheduled for this Saturday, September 15, are canceled this year and will not be rescheduled.

A state of emergency has been declared in Virginia, and severe weather associated with Hurricane Florence is expected to impact the region this week.

Event organizers will contact registered Plane Pull teams and 5K/10K runners with further instructions. Now in its 26th year, the annual Plane Pull event benefits Special Olympics Virginia and athletes with intellectual disabilities. While the event this year is cancelled, donations can still be made to Special Olympics Virginia.

The cancellation of the event is not an indication of airline cancellations. Passengers are encouraged to monitor weather forecasts and to contact their airlines for flight status.
