The ITA inaugural flight from Rome (FCO) Airport landed at Dulles International (IAD) around 2 p.m. on June 2 and received a fire department water-arch salute along its taxi route to Concourse A. It was the first revenue flight for the aircraft, an Airbus A330 neo, since being assembled in France.

A ceremonial ribbon-cutting event took place with speakers including officials from the Italian Embassy, Airports Authority and ITA. Passengers enjoyed Illy coffee and gourmet pizza and received gift bags before boarding for departure. The program was streamed on the airport's Facebook page.

Speaking on behalf of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Chryssa Westerlund said, “This new service from the capital of the United States to the capital of Italy offers comfortable and convenient nonstop service, increasing our annual capacity from Dulles to Rome by 200,000 seats.”
