Cleared for takeoff: new airlines, routes, concessions and amenities
Following a year of record passenger turnout at the region’s airports, Reagan National and Dulles International airports are prepared for the busiest four-month stretch of 2026: May through August. More than 19 million travelers are expected to take to the skies at Washington's airports during this period. New airlines, destinations and airport amenities will contribute to a smooth travel experience at the region’s airports this summer as the nation celebrates its 250th birthday.
New Airlines Begin Dulles Nonstop Service
- Air Premia to Seoul, South Korea: Began in April, offers premium economy service four days per week.
- EVA Air to Taipei, Taiwan: Begins June 26 with four weekly flights on a Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Other New Flights and Destinations
- United from Dulles to: Reykjavik, Iceland; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Quebec City, Quebec; Lynchburg, Virginia; Clarksburg, West Virginia; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
- American from Dulles to Los Angeles, California.
- Frontier from Dulles to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
- Air Canada from Dulles to Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto, Ontario.
New Food and Beverage Options to Enjoy
- Colada Shop (DCA near C-gates): A popular D.C, gathering spot offers delicious Cuban-style food, coffee and cocktails in a lively atmosphere.
- Busboys and Poets (DCA end of D-gates): Local, vibrant community-driven restaurant and café serving globally inspired comfort food.
- Clyde’s (IAD coming soon to Concourse D): A D.C.-area favorite American tavern bringing elevated comfort food alongside a full bar.
- Starbucks (IAD coming soon to Concourse C): Coffee shop is airport’s seventh location.
- 2 Silos Brewing Co. (IAD coming soon to Concourse B): Serves a variety of local brews, craft drinks and a regionally inspired menu.
- Shenandoah Marketplace & Starbucks (IAD coming soon to Concourse B): This marketplace combines a diverse array of local products for sale along with a full-service Starbucks café.
Airport Amenities
- DCA and IAD are both on the Metrorail system. Taking the train is strongly encouraged to avoid traffic delays, particularly during the large events planned around the region.
- Reagan National has completed the addition of extra seating in Terminal 2’s National Hall with cupholders and power outlets. New, larger restrooms also have opened.
- Both airports have a new parking reservation option: PassPark Premium. Spaces are set aside in prime locations convenient to terminals and walkways for easy access. Details: FlyReagan / FlyDulles.
- Construction of a parking garage continues in Reagan National’s Economy lot. The lot is open for customers, and reservations are recommended. Phased openings of garage spaces will gradually add more parking capacity in Economy during the coming months.
- Concourse E is under construction at Dulles International. The first phase with 14 gates, new concessions and a United Club is expected to open this fall. Learn more about the new facility here.
Moving Through TSA Checkpoints
- Don’t forget to bring a Real ID or other TSA approved ID to the checkpoint to avoid delays. Otherwise, visit TSA’s website in advance to confirm your ID and pay a $45 fee.
- Join your airline’s Touchless ID program for a faster trip through TSA PreCheck while leaving your physical ID in your wallet or purse at the checkpoint.
- New: TSA announced travelers age 30 and under can enroll in TSA PreCheck at a $20 discount for a limited time.
General Airport Tips – Regardless of the Season
- Double-check the expiration date of your photo ID.
- Arrive inside the airport two hours before a domestic departure and three hours before an international departure.
- Reserve parking well in advance and join the PassPark rewards program. Earn points toward valuable rewards when parking at the airports. Online reservations offer the best rates available.
- Use the free Mobile Passport Control, or “MPC app,” for a faster trip through U.S. Customs when returning from an international trip. Global Entry also offers a free app that can save time at the airport.
- Use Metrorail or the Airports Authority’s Kiss and Fly drop-off at Reagan or Dulles to avoid traffic.
