Jazz Performances at Dulles International and Reagan National for All to Enjoy

Summer Jazz Jam

Washington Dulles International and Reagan Washington National airports will host a series of jazz performances this summer, for the enjoyment of the traveling public. The pre-security performances will kick off on Thursday, July 9, with the sounds of jazz drifting throughout the airports until Thursday, August 13.

Passengers will hear the sounds of Caribbean, contemporary, classical and R&B jazz. The series, which focuses on local artists, provides an opportunity for performers to showcase their talents while also enhancing the experience of the diverse audiences who travel through the airports.

The Summer Jazz Series, which is in its fifth year, has previously delighted passengers with classical soul jazz, Brazilian and contemporary jazz.

“The Summer Jazz Series provides domestic and international passengers a new experience while traveling through Washington’s airports,” said Jerome L. Davis, Airports Authority’s executive vice president and chief revenue officer. “The sounds of various jazz artists will showcase individual talent and the creativity of the entire National Capital Region.”

Additional information about the music series and the individual performances can be found online at mwaa.com/SummerJazz and on social media at both airports’ Twitter accounts - @Reagan_Airport and @Dulles_Airport – with the hashtag “#SummerJazzJam.”

The Summer Jazz Jam is part of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s Arts Program, which gives passengers a variety of entertainment to enjoy while traveling through Washington’s airports. The Airports Authority, through its Arts Program, offers diverse regional, national and international rotating exhibits, live performances and public art displays that celebrate the beauty and creativity of the National Capital Region.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority was established in 1987 by the governments of Virginia and the District of Columbia to manage and operate Washington’s Ronald Reagan National and Dulles International airports, which together serve more than 40 million passengers a year. The Airports Authority also operates and maintains the Dulles Airport Access Road and the Dulles Toll Road and manages construction of the Silver Line project, a 23-mile extension of the Washington region’s Metrorail system into Loudoun County, Va. No taxpayer money is used to operate the toll road, which is funded by toll revenues, or the airports, which are funded through aircraft landing fees, rents and revenues from concessions. The Silver Line construction is funded by a combination of toll-road revenues, airport contributions and federal, state and local government appropriations. The Airports Authority is led by a 17-member board of directors appointed by the governors of Virginia, Maryland, the mayor of Washington, D.C., and the president of the United States.
