New Dining, Shopping Options Coming to Washington’s Airports

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced Wednesday that 11 new concessions will begin development at Dulles International and Reagan National airports in the coming year. The food, beverage and retail brands represent the latest awards in the multi-year program to redevelop more than 80 concessions at the airports. Since 2023, concessions redevelopment has delivered 47 new or renovated locations for airport customers.

MWAA-Commissioned Audit of Phase 1 of the Dulles Rail Project

In October of 2011, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors commissioned an independent audit to assess the administrative procedures that the Airports Authority was using in the oversight of Phase 1 of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, and to recommend any opportunities for improvement in managing the Project. KPMG, a nationally recognized accounting firm, recently completed the audit which found that “current processes and controls overall are working as intended to allow for effective management of the Project.”

By resolution approved on June 6, 2007, The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors authorized the Airports Authority to enter into a contract to construct Phase I of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail project. On July 23, 2008, The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors approved a resolution authorizing the Airports Authority to update the previously approved contract.

New permanent airline gates were constructed in the lower level of the Main Terminal to replace the temporary T-gates. The first completed phase of the Z-gates is located to the east of the airport’s original Airport Traffic Control Tower.
