Washington’s Airports were taking steps Friday to prepare for weather impacts related to Hurricane Sandy. Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National are working with airlines at each airport to make sure items on the airfield are secure, testing backup generators and clearing storm drains in advance of the storm.

Airlines serving Dulles International and Reagan National airports canceled most flights for Monday in advance of Hurricane Sandy, which forecasters predict will bring damaging wind and heavy rain to the region. Passengers are strongly encouraged to check their flight status before leaving for the airport, especially on Monday, when many cancellations are expected. Both airports plan to remain open during this significant weather event.

All airlines serving Reagan National and Dulles International Airports have canceled operations until further notice due to Hurricane Sandy. However, the airports will remain open throughout this significant weather event. The Airports Authority strongly encourages passengers not to travel to the airports. Many food and retail concessions are closed and staffing is limited. Passengers should contact their airline directly to confirm or rebook travel.

Airlines serving Dulles International and Reagan Washington National airports resumed a limited number of flights Tuesday, following Hurricane Sandy.  It is likely many airlines will resume operations Wednesday.   Passengers are strongly encouraged to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. The airports are coordinating with airlines, airport tenants and other stakeholders to resume normal operations as quickly as possible.

Board Member Martire Re-seated; Will Serve through October

A new ramp and flyover bridge connecting the eastbound Dulles Airport Access Highway to I-495 will open to traffic on Saturday, September 8, 2012. The ramp provides a direct connection to the northbound and southbound Capital Beltway (I-495), improving safety and convenience for traffic near the interchange.
