The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will conduct an emergency exercise at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Saturday, September 18 from 9 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m. A river rescue exercise, featuring rescue boats and individuals being pulled from the Potomac River will also be part of the exercise. A simulated aircraft accident will test the Airport’s emergency operations plan and provide hands-on training to airport and mutual aid emergency response personnel.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will hold two public information workshops to update the public on the latest design plans for the 11.6 mile section of Phase 2 of the Dulles Metrorail Project which will be built from Wiehle Avenue on the eastern edge of Reston in Fairfax County to Route 772 in Ashburn in eastern Loudoun County. Information will be provided on the six future Metrorail stations in Phase 2, including an alternative option for the Washington Dulles International Airport station.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors has elected Charles D. Snelling, Chairman; Leonard Manning, Vice Chairman; and Quince T. Brinkley, Jr., Secretary. Mr. Snelling, has served as Chairman since 2010, and has held the position of Vice Chairman as well as Chairman of the Board’s Planning and Construction, Finance, and Audit Committees. He is an inventor, the holder of 20 patents, a venture capitalist, a real estate developer and an independent businessman.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority now provides a new Safety Service Patrol, a free service to assist motorists on the Dulles Toll Road and the Dulles Airport Access Highway. The Safety Service Patrol is available Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and offers the following services: • Fixing flat tires                         • Providing emergency gas for an empty tank

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority has opened several “pet relief areas” at Ronald Reagan Washington National and Washington Dulles International Airports. These areas give travelers a new option when their pet or service animal needs a bathroom break while at the airport. The typical layout of each pet relief area at Dulles includes a mockup of a fire hydrant placed on artificial “K-9 grass” in a fenced-in area. The grass was developed to be paw-friendly to our four-legged friends and easy to maintain.

The Board of Directors has selected Krauthamer & Associates to conduct the executive search to fill the position of President and CEO of the Airports Authority. Board Chairman, Charles D. Snelling observed that, “We are in a very good position to conduct this executive search in a thorough, thoughtful and deliberate way since we have a strong management team currently led by Lynn Hampton who is serving as President and CEO during this transitional period.” Krauthamer & Associates will work under the direction of the Legal and Governance Committee chaired by Jack Andrew Garson.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is conducting an emergency preparedness exercise at Washington Dulles International Airport on Saturday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to approximately 12 noon. This simulated aircraft accident will test the Airport’s emergency operations plan and provide hands-on training to airport and mutual aid emergency response personnel. The exercise will not affect normal airport operations. PLEASE NOTE: There will be numerous emergency vehicles operating in the area of Routes 28 and 50 near Dulles Airport on Saturday morning, and smoke may be visible.

The Dulles Corridor Advisory Committee is an eight member committee that advises the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority on issues related to the management, improvement and expansion of the Dulles Corridor, as well as future changes to toll rates on the Dulles Toll Road to fund roadway improvements and the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.
