More than 300 works of art by students in District of Columbia public schools will be on exhibit in Terminal B/C at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport during the month of April. The theme, “Soaring in 2001”, will be reflected in the work from 100 elementary, middle, junior, and senior high schools throughout the city. The exhibition will be on display in the ground level of Terminals B and C where the baggage carousels are located.

Washington Dulles International Airport now ranks fourth in the nation for transatlantic air service, according to the Official Airline Guide (OAG), for the upcoming summer season. This significant designation reinforces Dulles’ place among the top airports in the country providing international air service across the Atlantic Ocean and underscores its role as a major gateway to the U.S. from Europe. This is the first time that Dulles has reached the rank of fourth largest transatlantic gateway.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will sponsor a Small Business Outreach Seminar on Thursday, July 26, 2001 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. Local entrepreneurs and small business owners are invited to learn about the retail and food & beverage concession opportunities that exist at both airports. Procedures for opening and operating an airport business will be discussed with representatives from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Westfield Concession Management, Inc. and HMS Host.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority has recently installed automatic external defibrillator (AED) units throughout the public facilities at Ronald Reagan Washington National and Washington Dulles International Airports. The AED is a life-saving electronic device that delivers an electric shock to the heart to help re-establish normal rhythm during a heart attack. In addition to their use in hospitals and by emergency medical teams, the new generation of defibrillators is now being used by the airlines and in other places where the public gathers.

Dulles, VA -- Travelers Aid Washington DC is looking for volunteers who want to help airline passengers have a smooth trip through Washington Dulles International Airport. The organization has provided services at both Dulles and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airports for over 35 years. Travelers Aid volunteers provide assistance with general information about the airport facilities, directions to ground transportation, and connect travelers with special assistance if necessary.

Today, President George Bush announced that Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport will reopen on Thursday, October 4th. This is welcome news to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and the thousands of individuals who work at Reagan National Airport. We will work with the airlines and the businesses at the Airport to ensure that all the necessary security and operational actions are taken to enable us to return to business as outlined by the President.

Phase II to begin October 26th

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors has elected its officers for 2002. At the monthly board meeting yesterday, Carolyn Boone Lewis was re-elected as Chairman and Norman M. Glasgow, Jr. was re-elected Vice Chairman. Gregory Wolfe was also re-elected as Secretary and Counsellor to the Board. Ms. Lewis was elected as Chairman of the Authority last year. She has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1995. She was appointed by the Mayor of the District of Columbia.

The recent Thanksgiving holiday season proved to be a busy time at Washington Dulles International Airport this year and it is estimated that the Christmas travel season will attract passengers to the airport as well. At Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, the limited operations during Thanksgiving greatly reduced the usual number of travelers.

Today's announcement by the Department of Transportation of additional service to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is welcome news. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority looks forward to increasing our service to the community and to our nation. The Authority appreciates all those who have worked hard to bring this increase in air service to the region.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors has elected the Honorable Robert L. Calhoun as Vice Chairman. Norman M. Glasgow, Jr., who formerly held the position of Vice Chairman, became Chairman of the Board in January. Mr. Calhoun has served on the Board since 1996, and held the position of Chairman of the Business Administration Committee for the past five years.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority unveiled its first Parking Garage atWashington Dulles International Airport today in a dedication ceremony that included Virginia Congressman Frank Wolf, Fairfax County Chairman Katherine Hanley, Loudoun County Chairman Scott York, Airports Authority Chairman Norman Glasgow and Airports Authority President/CEO James A. Wilding.
