With passenger activity levels rising in 2023, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is preparing for significant travel through Washington’s airports in the coming weeks. During peak times around holidays from Veterans Day through New Year's Day, passengers may experience heavily congested airport-area roads, limited parking availability and bustling terminals. New customer amenities, however, are available to make their journey easier and more enjoyable. Airport Arrival Time 

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced today that Aeromexico will begin new nonstop service between Mexico City (MEX) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) on July 1, 2024.

Metro and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) today commemorated a major milestone topping one million customers at the Washington Dulles International Airport Metrorail Station since opening in November.  During a celebration event at the station, Metro and MWAA surprised a lucky traveler as the ceremonial one-millionth customer to go through the Dulles International Airport Station. Ivy Cheng arrived at the station greeted with cheers, Silver Line memorabilia, and gifts provided by Metro, Dulles International Airport and United Airlines.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced today that Swiss International Air Lines will begin new nonstop service between Zurich (ZRH) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) on April 1, 2024. Flights will operate daily during the summer and 5x/week in the winter. Passengers on this new route will travel aboard an Airbus 330-300 aircraft featuring first, business and economy class cabins.

At a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, executives of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Capital One and TAV Operations Services celebrated the completion of an 8,500-square-foot Capital One Lounge constructed at the base of Washington Dulles International Airport’s historic Air Traffic Control Tower. The Capital One lounge officially opens to customers Thursday, September 7.     

Officials from Dominion Energy and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) were joined by federal, state and local leaders Tuesday to break ground on the Dulles Solar and Storage project at Dulles International Airport.

Taylor Chess has joined the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority board of directors. He is an appointee of the governor of Virginia for a term expiring in November 2026. 

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is urging Congress to defeat proposals to add up to 28 new flights at Reagan National Airport, which would increase the heavy congestion on its single main runway, already the busiest in America. Reagan National (DCA), the smallest of three major airports serving Washington, D.C., averages 819 daily takeoffs and landings on its relatively short main runway – making it the most heavily utilized runway in the nation.

Acting Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire Chief Richard T. Bonnett Jr., a 23-year veteran of the department, has been selected as fire chief after an extensive nationwide search. 

Officials from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, United Airlines and the German Embassy gathered Thursday at Dulles International Airport to celebrate the launch of United’s daily nonstop service to Berlin.
