Allegiant Air is set to double its number of nonstop destinations from Washington Dulles International Airport this spring.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced Thursday that Chryssa Westerlund has been named executive vice president and chief revenue officer, responsible for airline business development, marketing and consumer strategy, concessions, commercial parking, corporate communications and government affairs for Reagan National and Dulles International airports, the Dulles Toll Road and the Airports Authority’s corporate functions.

On Wednesday, Thomas Beatty was named vice president of engineering. Beatty has been acting in the role since April 2021, when the previous Senior Vice President of Engineering Roger Natsuhara, was promoted to chief engineer and development officer.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority expects busy travel at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport to continue through the year-end holiday season. This continues the trend observed during Thanksgiving, when passenger volumes reached close to 2019 activity levels.

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority officials announced Wednesday that construction contractor Hensel Phelps has achieved substantial completion on the 90-acre Rail Yard and Maintenance Facility at Dulles International Airport. The announcement marks another significant milestone for the Silver Line Phase 2 project to extend the Washington region’s Metrorail public transit system to Dulles International Airport and farther into Northern Virginia.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, together with American Airlines, launched the soft opening Tuesday of 14 gates in a newly constructed 225,000-square-foot concourse at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). 

Just in time for the holiday season, Las Vegas-based ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant Air made a splash Friday as the vacation-focused airline launched year-round nonstop service from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), the first of two Florida destinations the carrier plans to begin serving from Dulles International this fall. Next month, Allegiant will round out its 2021 Dulles debut by launching nonstop service to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), located along the Sunshine State’s Gulf Coast, just before Christmas.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is gearing up for a busy holiday travel season between Thanksgiving and the New Year at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport, with passenger traffic approaching pre-pandemic levels not seen since 2019.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority board of directors re-elected William Sudow to serve as its chairperson and Thorn Pozen to serve as vice chairperson for 2022 at its meeting Wednesday. The board also re-elected Monica Hargrove as secretary to the Airports Authority. All three will serve one-year terms in office beginning in January.

United Airlines is giving customers the chance to check the cultural and natural wonders of Jordan off of their travel bucket lists in 2022, as tickets go on sale today for the airline’s brand-new flights between Dulles International Airport and Amman (AMM). United is the only North American airline offering direct flights to Jordan from the U.S., and the first flight takes off on May 5, 2022 (these flights are subject to government approval).
