An underground station was the smart choice for Dulles
Jul 6, 2015 - 12:13 PM EDT
When the board of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority approved an underground Metro station for Dulles International Airport last week, we were guided by two clear priorities: Do what is best for passengers and our communities and do it in the most cost-efficient way possible.
On the first point, the underground station is a far better choice for a facility that will serve Dulles and our region for most of the rest of this century.
It is the policy of the Airports Authority to cooperate with the news media to the greatest extent possible. Our primary responsibilities, however, are safe and orderly airport operations. When there is an emergency situation at either Dulles or Reagan National that is expected to generate extensive media attention, the following procedures will serve as our guidelines:
Both Ronald Reagan Washington National and Washington Dulles International Airports are public buildings operated by the Airports Authority. Media may film, tape, or photograph in publicly accessible areas, including but not limited to lobbies, parking lots and garages, roadways, the media pad at Dulles, terraces at Reagan National, hallways adjacent to concessions and other common use areas. Only ticketed passengers may proceed through security. It is not a practice of the Airports Authority to issue gate passes or escort the media through or beyond the TSA security checkpoint.
Media inquiries regarding any aspect of airport operations, concessions, parking, or public safety should be directed initially to the Office of Communications at the Airports Authority. This includes requests to cover any news stories which may take place at Reagan National or Dulles International Airport.
